Legacy specification recovery / Pre-migration investigation
When the source code is lost, undocumented, or withheld, a critical business system becomes a black box. We recover its screens, operations, behaviour and database structure from the running executable and database — to a level of detail you can rebuild from.
Based in Japan, we specialise in old business systems — the kind that still run the company but that "only one person" understands. No source code, no documentation, and often no cooperation from the original developer? That is our normal starting point. We work from the evidence the system itself leaves behind.
Every screen's components, constraints and choices; menus, buttons, transitions and key operations.
Business logic, calculations, validations and transactions; the database structure and where each value is actually produced.
Optionally, the current operating environment too — servers, permissions, jobs and data flows — documented so it can be handed over.
Our people have worked through every era of computing, from its early days to the present. Old technology did not disappear — the number of people who can still read it did. Knowing the conventions of each era prevents the misreadings that silently corrupt data during migration.
Typical situations where overseas stakeholders engage us:
We begin with a small preliminary survey to establish scope and cost, then quote for the whole. Inquiries in English are welcome via the form (please write in the free-text field).
